I’ve had Amica for several years, always one of the best customer services and cheapest rates. Recently before my renewal I got notice that my house would be renewed at doubling of premium (2k extra! Yikes!) And my replacement cost for my house went up by 250k. I called immediately and talked to several agents who were very rude and unhelpful and couldn’t explain the rate hike other than “we raised the rates across the board 10-20%”, which still didn’t make sense since that doesn’t equal a doubling in rates. I finally looked elsewhere and right away my quote was lower by 1k. Then I still kept seeing the overblown replacement cost and had this new company go line by line on what was deemed part of my house . Turns out my house had according to them, and possibly Amica who I suspect provided the incorrect information from their previous quote an 8 CAR GARAGE (I’ve only ever had a 2 car garage)! Not only that, but they were rating my house above grade in materials (luxury wood floors, marble, granite countertops) when my house has none of that and never has. Once all information was corrected my policy went to about 10% increase which was a $200 increase from my last policy with Amica and the replacement cost went down by 200k approximately! Homeowners please check every last detail, these insurance companies are getting very unscrupulous in bleeding out as much $ as they can, any way they can from homeowners. When I called Amica and told them I was not happy they didn’t tell me there was an 8 car garage under my policy they backtracked and said my house has always shown a replacement cost of 284k which is untrue. They are liars and can’t explain the difference in rates from 2k to 4k. Omission is still lying and their customer service is so rude now. They interrupt you, the lady manager Amanda who I spoke to called me calling about this silly and ridiculous. Something has changed at Amica and it’s not for the better in my opinion.
